Israel has responded with massive attacks across Lebanon as well as ground operations in the country’s south. Lebanese authorities reported 1,368 people killed in a month of hostilities.
“This afternoon, an explosion occurred inside a UN position… injuring three peacekeepers, two of whom were seriously injured. They are all currently being evacuated to hospital. We do not yet know the origin of the explosion,” said UNIFIL spokesperson, Kandice Ardiel.
The UN Interim Force in Lebanon is stationed in the southern region of the country, near the border.
Israel’s military carried out a new offensive in southern Beirut, saying it was attacking “terror infrastructure” after issuing evacuation orders for the area, a Hezbollah stronghold that has been largely empty of residents amid repeated attacks and evacuation warnings.
An AFP correspondent heard the explosion as the state-run National News Agency reported raids in the area.
